The reality of what life might hold for us, post-COVID-19 is not clear yet, and its consequences for our businesses and society has yet to sink in. Business leaders need to show good values and remain focused to reinvent and adapt themselves and their organisations. Things are changing on a daily basis. Today’s realities are often quite different than they were yesterday, and significantly different from just last week. Clearly it’s important to keep abreast of implications for your sector, so you can make better decisions. Remember what’s most important: the safety of your employees and customers. Making people feel safe is one of the most important roles of a leader. Over communicate and leverage the strengths within your teams. Find new ways to create teamwork, particularly with your remote workers. Ultimately be your authentic self to build trust in you as a leader. And show good emotional control to remain calm and focused. If you don’t have the answers just say. Listen intently and with empathy to understand what people are asking and why they are asking it. As a business leader, recognise that your job isn’t simply to protect the interests of your shareholders, it is your role to balance the demands of all stakeholders – including customers, employees, suppliers and your local community.
